You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it

“Patience is power. Patience is not the absence of action it is “timing”. It waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.”

Patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems or a situation without becoming annoyed or anxious. This is yet again (just like humility from our previous post) a virtue, quite rare in the majority. We tend to feel pressure to achieve and obtain things and statuses in life, simply because we either are of a certain age or because those around are at level and live the lifestyle of which we wish we would be in!

Have you ever thought about the effect of right timing? Life is not a competition against anyone else other than yourself. I love reminding myself this. Some of us (including myself) at times, get caught up trying to do above and beyond to achieve what we might never achieve prior to the right time. What do I mean you may ask? I mean that, despite how much you feel that you are ready for marriage, you will not get married unless it’s the right time for you to get married. No matter how much effort you put in working hard to get a promotion, your promotion will not come prior to the right time. Don’t get me wrong, this does not mean that you should not put in the effort, however, refrain from focusing too much on things and working beyond your capacity to get what only time will give you.

I will give you a phenomenal example of a man whose story did not only shock a nation but also people outside the republic of Kenya. A 41-year-old man woke up on the morning of the 8th of August, ready to go to the polling station, to queue for his turn to exercise his democratic right in this Kenya’s 2017 general election. He took food with him since the queue can be quite long and exhausting. His choice of food was quite brilliant. It was neither pizza nor fries, but a type of staple in Kenya called Githeri (a mixture of beans, maize and other spices/vegetables suitable to one’s preference). A stranger took a photo which led to memes being generated. Overnight “githeri man” (His new identity) was a trend. Now a brand. In just a few days, githeri man’s life changed from being a county government worker to a brand ambassador and landowner. He did not strive for his moment, but at the right time, his moment found him. None of us know what his prayers were in his private room, however, it is quite evident that God was listening.

Many of us tend to give up right before our moment arrives and because of that, we lose out on what could have been a life-changing opportunity, simply because we lack patience. Other tend to help their destiny shape up, by this I mean that we compromise our integrity in different ways, like resulting to drug-dealing or objectifying ourselves so as to take the elevator because the stairs take longer and are tedious. Sometimes it’s not about how hard you work or whether or not you think that you’re ready for something, it’s about the right time.

Dear readers, do not force yourself into a situation simply because of peer-pressure because you are desperate or due to your age. Do not miss out on the right timing due to what society deems fit for you. Sit, back, relax and do the right thing. Build yourself in all aspects. Focus on yourself and prepare yourself for all factors and stages of life. Ignore your age because to some extent, it’s only just a number. Exercise patience and know that there is a perfect time for everything. Patience is not the absence of action it is “timing”. It waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.
